Children’s Songs, Music Theory, and What They Mean For Children

Children’s songs, or dětské písničky, as they are named in Czech, are these repetitive songs that you usually hear when there are children around. It makes sense too that they are usually played when there are children because it is a well-known fact that music is able to help children grow well because of the benefits they can give to the growing child’s brain and behavior. In this, we will talk about all that as well as music theory and how it can help you in rasing your child so they grow up right, let’s get started, shall we?

The Basics of Music Theory

Music theory is the study of how music works and it includes understanding notes, rhythms, and scales. Now, for these children, music theory can be simplified into basic ideas:

  1. Notes: These are the sounds we hear when we play an instrument or sing and each note has a different pitch, that determines how high or low it sounds.
  2. Rhythms: This is the pattern of beats in music and it tells us how fast or slow to play or sing the notes.
  3. Scales: These are sets of notes that go up or down in pitch they are like these musical ladders that make the sing.

How These Children Learn From Music

When children listen to or sing songs, they are learning a lot of things apart from the song itself and the words they have, here are some of the things that they have learned:

Language Skills

Singing songs helps children learn new words and how to pronounce them because when these words have rhythm, they can associate them to, it becomes easier for them to learn. Additionally, much like how music has rhythm and flow, so too does the spoken language, so, essentially it makes it easier for them to become familiar with how it works which they can use once they are able to speak.

Memory and Concentration

Learning the lyrics and tunes of songs improves memory and focus, similar to how we, as adults, sometimes use mnemonics or make songs out of things so we can remember them more easily.

You might have found that things get easier to remember when they have a certain rhythm to tone to them, this applies to children learning music, which will help them with memory and concentration. Additionally, it is also scientifically proven that certain sounds will help with focus and concentration so this applies too.

Motor Skills

Certain songs, especially children’s songs or even folk songs, involve these little movements or steps like clapping or stomping their feet. For kids, this is incredibly helpful because it can help them develop their balance and coordination so that they can grow up to be well-rounded people.

Conclusion

At the end of the day, these songs will be incredibly helpful for your children’s growth especially if you take into account all that we have shared to you, so why don’t you try to expose them to it and watch them grow to be the best version of themselves!
